Timber Frames and Water Meadows: A Tale of Two Towns

Thursday 14th May 2026

Discover two of Essex and Suffolk’s most characterful towns on this delightful day out through history, scenery, and timeless charm. Set in the heart of the beautiful Stour Valley, Sudbury is an ancient market town with Saxon roots . Today, its historic streets are lined with independent shops, cafés, and traditional pubs, with North Street a particular favourite. We then travel on to the enchanting town of Thaxted, often described as one of Britain’s prettiest small towns. With its striking medieval buildings, half-timbered houses, and charming streets still bearing ancient names such as Fishmarket Street, Thaxted feels like stepping into a storybook. It’s the perfect place to wander, take photos, and soak up the atmosphere.
