A morning departure with comfort stops on route for our holiday in Poldarks Cornwall. (Be still my beating heart!) Arriving in Newquay at our hotel late afternoon.
After breakfast we make our way to Padstow, home of celebrity chef Rick Stein, here we will have a short time to explore, before making our way to Jamaica Inn high up on wild and beautiful Bodmin Moor. Made world-famous by Daphne du Maurier’s tale of smugglers, rogues and pirates.
We visit the smugglers museum with its finest collection of smuggling artefacts, and tall tales from smugglers and wreckers. We follow this with a trip on the Bodmin Railway before heading back to our hotel.
A Free Day to explore Newquay one of the nation’s favourite seaside towns. It exudes the laid back atmosphere you would expect from a town perched on Cornwall’s Atlantic cliffs and bordered by 7 miles of glorious golden sandy beaches. Relax and enjoy a proper holiday – toes in the sand, ice-cream in hand. Maybe visit the Zoo or take a Sea Safari in search of seals and dolphins. Newquay is a proper holiday resort all wrapped up in the most fantastic coastal scenery.
Today we venture to Charlestown. Due to its traditional appearance and collection of ships this town has featured as the principle town in Poldark. We then make our way to Cornwall’s only City and capital, Truro. While Corsham in Wiltshire doubled as Truro for filming, the City itself was Winston Graham’s true inspiration for the story and features throughout the books.
Time to bid farewell to this outstandingly beautiful area and make our way home with comfort stops en route
